NIGHT WORK IN RESTAURANT [BY TKLEGUAni —OWN COKRKSPONDENT] THAMES, Thursday Before Mr. F. 11. Lcvien, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, Mrs. S. McMalion was fined 40s and costs for employing a female assistant at her restaurant alter 10.30 p.m. The inspector of awards stated this was the first case of its kind to be heard for a long period. Counsel for the defence, Mr. C. J. Garland, admitted the charge, but point oil out that oitv and country awards were the same. Girls were idle for long periods in small country businesses. There had been an agreement to give and take on both sides. He stated that an emplo.veo had had 19 days oft in five months, but nothing had been deducted from her wages.
