HOSPITAL STAFF

INCREASE SUGGESTED MOVE BY BOARD MEMBER Ihe future of the honorary medical staff of the Auckland Hospital has not been finally settled by the Auckland Hospital Board's decision not to co-opt the services of three surgeons who previously held appointments on the honorary staff, for one of the board members, Mr. E. H. Potter, has now given notice to move the following motions:

"That the number of honorary physicians and surgeons bo increased to not less than eight in each group. "That all applications for appointment to the honorary staff shall be submitted first to the honorary consulting staff for their report on the qualifications, including service, and put in order of merit; and on receipt of same the secretary shall forward the names of the applicants to the Minister of Health, together with the report from the honorary consulting staff, for his comments." It is possible that these notices of motion may be dealt with at a special meeting, instead of the next ordinary meeting of the board, as a special meeting can be held, provided that a requisition is signed by five members. Mr. Potter said yesterday that he was unable to attend the meeting of the board on Tuesday, as he was giving evidence in a Court case. He would have supported the chairman's proposal to co-opt the services of the three surgeons, and in that case the voting would have been equal. The chairman would then have had the right to use his casting vote to carry the proposal. The three surgeons, Messrs. A. Smith Gray, T. de Clive Lowe and D. McKenzie, who were appointed senior surgeons on the honorary staff of the hospital, took over their new duties yesterday.
