COMMUNITY SUNSHINE
CORONATION PARTY HAPPY DAY FOR CHILDREN A Coronation party for the pupils of the Community Sunshine School, Nelson Street, was held yesterday afternoon at the school, when everything had been done by the ladies' auxiliary to make the occasion a memorable one for the children. In order to bring home to the little ones the nature of the ceremony which will take place in England to-day, • the hall had been appropriately decorated, the chief feature being an enlarged photograph of the King and Queen surrounded with gold leaves and suspended over a crown on a red, white and blue cushion. A photograph of the Heir Apparent, Princess Elizabeth, and Princess Margaret Rose, also surrounded by gold leaves, was hung at one side of the stage, while red, white and blue streamers and bells decorated the side, walls.
A festive Christmas tree, decorated with tinsel and balloons and containing a gift for each child, occupied pride of place at the far end of the hall. The tree, which was to have been the centre of a Christmas party, postponed owing to the regulations with regard to the infantile paralysis epidemic, appeared yesterday instead, and the longawaited' gifts, which were donated by members of the ladies' auxiliary, were presented by two little girls representing Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose respectively.
Afternoon tea comprising ice cream, chocolates and cakes was served at a long table adorned with bonbons, and in the centre was a largo iced "Coronation" cake, the gift of the president of the ladies' auxiliary, Mrs. W. Champneys Bright. Songs, recitations and choruses by the children, under the direction of the head schoolmistress, Miss W. Bonner, and games, arranged by Mrs. A. H. Cavaye, helped to pass a happy afternoon. Proceedings were opened by the vicepresident, Mr. G. Cruicksliank, who described the process of the Coronation ceremony to the children. The Mayoress, Lady Davis, was present and was presented with a bouquet by one of the girls. Miss Rowley, a former teacher at the school, was the recipient of a clock.
