LADY GOLFER
YOUNG WHANGAREI PLAYER EXCEPTIONAL PROMISE SHOWN The young lady golf player, Miss Jean Stewart, a member of the Whangarei Ladies' Club who last year beat Mrs. J. M. Wilson, of Auckland, in the final of the North Auckland ladies' championship, is playing brilliantly this season. Although young both iii age and experience, she established a new ladies' record for the Whangarei course last week. So rapid has been the improvement made by this player during the past 12 months that keen observers of the game predict a great future for her.
It is recalled that Whangarei has produced some outstanding golf players, a notable example being Miss Oliver Kay, whose reputation has become international. Miss Stewart is perhaps the most promising lady player seen in the north for many years, and she maintains consistent practice throughout the year. In winning the North Auckland championship last year, she achieved an outstanding performance against a strong field, including several experienced Auckland players. It was the first big tournament in which Miss Stewart had taken part. She demonstrated that she possessed the necessary qualifications for tournament play. Miss Stewart will visit Botorua this week and will be a competitor in the Botorua Indies' tournament, commencing next Monday.
