CORONATION DAY An announcement has been made by the' managements of the Embassy. _ St. James', Regent, Strand, Civic, National, Majestic and Plaza Theatres that in order to enable their patrons to attend the Coronation cere* mony this morning or to view the decorations and illuminations of the city this evening, the times of performances at those theatres will be 11,30 a.m., 2.15 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. ROXY AND TIVOLI THEATRES Two full-length pictures, each full of thrilling action, form the programme to be presented at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres to-day. The first, "Park Avenue Logger," is a drama of the North-West, with George O'Brien in the leading role. As usual he gives a dynamic performance in the part of an outdoors man accustomed to a hard life, and his virile personality lends added power to the picture. "Black Legion," the second attraction, is an exposure of the activities of the gang of that name whose actions have lately been revived in the United States of America. _ The brutal methods and indiscriminate terrorism of the organisation are fully shown and the cast includes such wellknown actors as Humphrey Bogart, Dick Foran, Robert Barrat and Erin O'Brien Moore. MAJESTIC THEATRE "Pennies from Heaven," the latest film in which Bing Crosby appears, is the current attraction at the Majestic Theatre. Louis Armstrong and his band provide the music and other players in the cast are Madge Evans and Edith Fellowes. An English newspaper story with a murder forming the theme, "Sensation," is the second film. John Lodge and Margaret Vyner have the leading roles. CIVIC THEATRE "His Lordship," at the Civic Theatre, is an amusing modern comedy with romance and mystery well combined. George Arliss has a dual role and supporting him are Rene Raye, Romilly Lunge and John Beal. The popular child actress Shirley Temple has the major role in "Stowaway," which will have its first Auckland showing at the Civic Theatre on Friday. Three other well-known players, Alice Fave, Arthur Treacher and Robert Young, also appear. Many new songs are presented and include "Goodnight My Love," "1 Wanna Go to the Zoo" and "That's What I Want for Christmas." REGENT THEATRE Alexander Korda's production "Fire Over England," which is now being screened at the Regent Theatre, is still proving most popular with Auckland audiences and this stirring picture of the days when Elizabeth was Queen is most appropriate to the present as it shows the fisst stages in the development and expansion of the British Empire. Flora liobsonj Leslie Banks, Raymond Massey, Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier head the large cast. An interesting selection of shorter films also is being shown. ST. JAMES' THEATRE Only two days remain for Auckland picture-goers to see "Romeo and Juliet" at St. James' Theatre. Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer head the large cast. "Rose Marie," a picture which has been long-awaited, will commence its Auckland screenings at St. James' Theatre on Friday. With the successful leading pair of "Naughty Marietta," Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonaid, again appearing together, "Rose Marie" should rank as one of the best musical comedies for some years. Two others who helped to make "Naughty Marietta" the success it was, W. S. van Dyke and Hunt Stromberg, are responsible for this production. An interesting innovation in the making of "Rose Marie" was the recording for the first time of musical numbers out-of-doors. More than half the film was taken at Lake Tahoe, a mountain lake in the Sierra Nevada range. Hundreds of Indians take part in the scenes and one of the outstanding numbers is the totem pole dance. With more than a thousand dancers, all in lavish cos- ■ tumcs. it sets a high standard in photography and direction. Other players in the caso are Reginald Owen, Allan Jones and James Stewart. "Rose Mario" is from the studios of MetroGold wyn-Mayer. EMBASSY THEATRE The successful Auckland season of "Green Light," at the Embassy Theatre, is being continued. Errol Flvnn has the leading role and others in the cast include Margaret Lindsay, Anita Louise, Walter Abel and Sir Cedric Hardwieke, A picture being shown in conjunction, "The King's People," should attract much attention at the present time, as it portrays the history of the British Empire during the past 40 years. Many interesting scenes are depicted and notable figures, including the late John Drinkwater, George Bernard Shaw and the late Sir Austen Chamberlain, mako their comments on the changes they have seen. STRAND THEATRE One of the brightest musical comedies of this year, "Girl in a Million," is continuing its season at the Strand Theatre. The world skating champion, Sonja Henie, has the leading role and supporting her are a number of popular radio and screen artists. These include the Ritz Brothers, Don Ameche, Adolph Menjou and Ned Sparks. Many new songs are presented in this picture. A further attraction is "Back to Nature," an hilarious comedy depicting the adventures of the Jones family. NATIONAL THEATRE Large audiences are being attracted to the National Theatre, where two full-length pictures are being screened. The first, " The Big Broadcast of 1937," has many noted radio and film artists in the cast. Mae West again provides many laughs with her witticisms in her latest production, " Go West, Young Man," which also is being screened. Warren William, Randolph Scott and Lyle Talbot lend able support to Miss West. ASTOR THEATRE Magnificent singing is heard in "ShoW Boat," the picture now being screened at the Astor Theatre. Irene Dunne, Allan Jones, Charles Winninger and Paul Robeson head the cast. "Dangerous Intrigue" is also being shown. CAPITOL THEATRE "Toll of the Road" and "Half Angel" are the two films comprising the programme at the Capitol Theatre to-night. "Toll of the Road" has Randolph Scott, .Frances Dee and Billy Loo in the leading-roles, PRINCE EDWARD THEATRE "One New York Night," with Franchot Tone and Una Merkel in the major roles, and "Behold My Wife" are the two films to be presented at the Prince Edward Theatre I to-night. LONDON CINEMA " The Royal Cavalcade," a picture of the Royal Family, and " West of the Pecos, from the novel by Zane Grev, arc the two pictures now being screened at the Loudon Cinema.
PLAZA THEATRE j "Sally of the Regiment," a thrilling picture of life in the British Army, will be shown at the Plaza Theatre for the last time to-morrow. With Anna Lee in the title role, thero is a strong romantic element as well as some uproarious comedy. "Can This lie Dixie?", with the child actress Jauo Withers in the leading role, will commence a season at the Plaza Theatre op Friday. Miss Withers has an inimitable style and her pictures always prove most popular. Other players appearing in "Can This Be Dixie?'" are Slim Summerville, Sarah Haden and Claude Gillingwater. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO Deanna Durhin has the leading part in "Three Smart Girls," the chief attraction at the Crystal Palace and Riialto Theatres. "Don't Turn 'Em Loose" is an added attraction. TUDOR CINEMA Katherine Hepburn has the leading role in " Sylvia Scarlett," the current attraction at the Tudor Cinema. A special matinee performance of " San Francisco" will bo given this afternoon. CIVIC THEATRETTE George O'Brien will be seen in "The Lnst Trail" at the Civic Theatrette to-day. Several shorter films also will be screened. STATE THEATRE "The Gorgeous Hussy," with Joan Crawford in the title role, will be presented at the State Theatre to-day. STAR CINEMA Two pictures, "The Silver Streak" and "The Passing of the Third Floor Back," comprise today's programme at the Star Cinema. MAYFAIR CINEMA "Sisters Under the Skin" and "Hooray for Love," with Gene Raymond in the leading role, are the to be shown at the Mayfair Cinema" to-night STATE THEATRE, ONEHUNGA "Breezing Home" and "Criminal Lawyer" will be shown at the Stato Theatre, Onehunga, to-night. PRINCESS THEATRE Two pictures, "Hopalong Cassidv Returns" and "Laughing at Trouble," will be screened at the Princess Theatre to-night. ADELPHI THEATRE "Imitation of Life" and "Lots of Fun" comprise the current programme at the Adelphi Theatre,
