MANY CONGRATULATIONS Many hundreds of telegrams, numerous letters and some cablegrams from overseas were received yesterday by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, congratulating him on the honour conferred on him by the King. In addition, callers waited on the Mayor throughout the day to add their. felicitations. The messages came from all parts of New Zealand, and were sent by personal friends, local bodies and organisations, but there was a preponderance of greetings from individuals who have come into contact with Sir Ernest through his numerous activities. Smn« of the messages were from the managers of large concerns, who extended congratulations on behalf of their stalls and themselves. The heads of the departments at the Town Hall with their staffs waited on the Mayor in his room at noon yesterday and added their congratulation.". Congratulations to Sir Ernest were extended at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday. The chairman, Mr. C. G. Macindoe, said it was a well-deserved honour, as Sir Ernest was a man who had set a wonderful example, and the recognition of his work would be appreciated by all. THE CHIEF JUSTICE CONGRATULATION BY JURY [by telegraph—phkss association] WELLINGTON". Tuesday The Chief Justice, Sir Michael M.ver*. was congratulated by the foreman of the jury in the Supremo Court this morning on the title of G.C.M.G. being conferred upon him in the Coronation honours. The foreman, Mr. N. It. Scudon, said it was recognised as a tribute to His Honor's services to the Dominion, and was a compliment to the people of New Zealand.
