DOMINION PROSPERITY

IMPRESSION IN AUSTRALIA UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF PLAN An impression that New Zealand is enjoying a period of prosperity as tho result of the Labour Government's policy exists in the minds of many Australian business men, according to Mr. W. 1\ En dean, M.P. for Parnell, who returned by the Awatca yesterday after a holiday visit to tho Commonwealth.

"A lob of people over there think New Zealand is in a sort of boom caused by the Labour Government's policy," said Mr. Endean. He added that a trend toward Labour seemed to bo developing, and he thought there would be a swing in that direction in the near future. " ? The manner in which New South Wales deals with its relief problem was mentioned by Mr. Endean, who said payments were not made in cash, as in New Zealand, but through orders on the grocer, butcher and milkman. "This is a great improvement on our system in New Zealand, and eliminates tho possibility of the expenditure of the money on luxuries,'' lie said. Mr. Endean said Australia was peopled by a buoyant, vigorous and fighting race, but it would have its troubles in tho future. There was too much indulgence in gambling, and a lack of population to develop the resources of a huge continent. Tho facilities for obtaining refreshments on the Now South Wales railways were praised by Mr. Endean. Sandwiches and tea or coffee were supplied on trains, and passengers could order a hamper by telegram for'delivery at a station. "This is entirely different from tho catch-as-catch-can methods adopted by travellers and tourists at Frankton Junction or any railway refreshment room in New Zealand," ho added. "And yet we wish to.encourage tourists and other people to travel in tho Dominion."
