CARS IN SHORT SUPPLY

HEAVY DEMAND NOT MET SHOW EXHIBIT . CANCELLED [ntOM OUR OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday Because he has not enough cars for showroom purposes, let alone for outside exhibition, ono Hamilton motor dealer has had to cancel his space and exhibit in the motor section of the Waikato Winter Show. Such a situation has been feared by several of the Hamilton dealers and is the direct result of the extremely slow delivery of new cars. - .* One agent declared that lie lias SO signed orders for new cars, but cannot supply the ears and accordingly he is losing customers, who are not prepared to wait some time before delivery. Other firms also claim that they can sell cars immediately they are delivered and cannot cope with mounting orders.

The shipping strike along the west coast of America, the strikes in the large producing factories in America, and the heavy armament programme started in Britain are said to be the causes of the shortage of new cars, both American and English models being affected. A local factor is that assembly plants built in New Zealand have been unable to meet the increase in the demand. The Waikato has experienced this boom along with the rest of New Zealand, demand far exceeding supply, and an improvement in the position, it is stated, cannot be expected for some time.
