LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

Howick Branch. —The monthly meeting of the branch was held on Thursday. Mrs. Mansill presided. An interesting account of the Ngati-whatua Maoris at Orakei was given by Mrs. Babbington Tho thought for the month was contributed by Mrs. Holton and Miss Colleen Keesing gave recitations. Mrs. Brickell won the competition. Owing to her departure from the district, the resignation of the secretary, Mrs. Gaulton, was received with regret. Mrs. Black will ffll the vacancy. Afternoon tea brought to a close a pleasant afternoon.

Remuera No. 2 Branch. —The monthly meeting of the No. 2 branch of the League of Mothers was presided over by Mrs. W. R. Cashmore, president. The speaker for the afternoon was Miss Chapman, of the Plunket Society, who spoke on the activities of the movement. The opportunity was taken by members to bid farewell to Mrs. Thompson, who is leaving' for Invercargill. Items were given by several members of the Henderson branch, and afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Waters, Rodger and Albrecht

Ponsonby.—The monthly meeting of the branch was held last week, Mrs S. 0. English presiding. Among those present were members of Hataitai, Wellington, and City branches. Mrs" English gave a resume of a visit she had recently paid to branches in the North. Mrs. Maddaford presented the thought for tho month. Mr. D. K. Reed spoke on physical culture and pointed out that the instructors needed the co-operation of the parents in this building-up process. Drill and games, he said, wore only a very small portion of tho work. The importance of posture was emphasised. Songs by Miss Renner were enjoyed.
