ELLERSLIE TRACK

SIIY GALLOPS SOLIDLY SIX FURLONGS BY TE HAI LORD VAL AND BLACK MARLIN The No. 2 grass was available for galloping at Ellerslie yesterday, but not a great deal of fast work was attempted, the majority of tho horses being restricted- to steady pacing on the sand and the tan. The gojng was soft. On the grass Thurwind (Gilchrist) strode over seven furlongs in ] .36 3-5, speeding up over tho final three furlongs in 39 2-ss. He has shown speed in recent work and may be a prospect in approaching hack events. Ringshot (Fearn) and Okawa (Dulieu) wore never at top while running six furlongs in 1.25 3-5, the final three in 42 l-ss. They are in good order for their engagements at Pukekohe. Te Hai (Manson) was responsible for a solid six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. He was assisted over the lasjb half-mile in 51 4-5s by Valmint (Fearn), who was going comfortably at the end. Tho final three furlongs occupied 39 3-5s and Te Hai battled on well under pressure. Crooning (Dulieu) began slowly from the six furlongs to complete the distance in 1.21 2-5, coming home strongly over the last three in 39 4-ss. She is in great heart. Armacourt (Ncsbitt) worked steadily oyer a round in 1.57 1-5, the last six furlongs in 1.26 2-5 and the final three in 41 3-ss. Armacourt is bearing a bright appearance and should give a good account of herself among the open sprinters at Pukekohe. Lord Val (Baker) and Black Marlin (Green) worked solidly over a round in 1.52 2-5, the final six furlongs in 1.24 2-5 and the last half mile in 56 3-ss. R. S. Bagby's charges have made good progress in recent weeks and Lord Val should not be without prospects in the King George Handicap to-morrow. Shy (Murray) galloped soundly over a round in 1.46 4-5, being assisted over the last six furlongs by United (Gemmell) in ,1.20 1-5. Shy ran tho last- halfmi lo in 54 2-5s and was going comfortably at the finish.

Erase (Fearri) and Billy Boy (Dulieu) placed six furlongs behind in 1.26 3-5, the last three in 42 l-ss. Both are thrhing on their work and should be in good order for winter racing. TAKANINI TRAINING A SMART FIVE FURLONGS PALUSTRE AND LADY RULER The weather was fine for training operations at Takanini yesterday, when the inside grass, with the poles 18ft. out, was in use. A lot of useful work was accomplished in preparation for the final gallops before the Pukekohe meeting. Grateful moved with plenty of freedom in his two rounds of pace work. He should be in great order when next required to race. Highborn and Silver Glow did serviceable tasks. Professional, who has never looked better, strode freely in useful work. Mia Acrea went onCe round, running the last half-mile in 54_3-ss. He looks solid and bright. Royal Passage accomplished two rounds at a steady pace, and appears ready to race at any time. Ivy Wollonyx went with plenty of freedom at an even pace. She should strip in great heart to-morrow, when she is to contest the Windsor Handicap. Inquisitor is hitting out with more freedom and should not be long in regaining form. Gai Wind did useful work over two circuits. Spearcourt (Tinker) ran half a mile in 54 3-ss. He afterwards joined Survoy (Jones) and they ran seven furlongs in 1.35. Survoy had the better of the gallop, but it was a satisfactory effort on" the part of the hurdler Spearcourt. The colt purchased at the Sydney sales by Mr. E. Montgomery has been named Sir Robin. He is now attending the track and, although a trifle leggy, is a likely sort. One tiling in his favour is that he is very sensible. Fox Moth, who is coming to hand very quickly, went twico round at an even half-paco, Saccone, who is developing nicely, also did useful work. Palustre (Curwin), on the inside, had Lady Ruler (Hatwell) as a companion over five furlongs in 1.5 2-5, running the first half-mile in the smart time of 51 '4-ss. Both are in good order.

TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP

The five-year-old gelding Waitaka has been on the easy* list during the past week as a result of picking up a nail, The stoppage in Waitaka's preparation at this is unfortunate, as N. Prenter had him in nice order for approaching engagements. However the trouble should soon disappear.

Among the recent additions to T. R. George's team at Trentham is a three-year-old filly by the Limond horse Resinous from the Kilbroney — Maltegarde mare Gardant. She is being trained for Mr. J. Deal.v, ot Wellington, who raced Gardant with considerable success.

Two unbroken rising three-year-old fillies by Paper Money arrived at Riccarton last week from the property of their breeder, Mr, E, Gates, of Amberley. One is from Arrowlet, a sister to Minerval, and she has entered F. I). Jones' stable. The other is a sister to Studley Royal, and she has been taken by D. Cotton to be broken in, and then handed over to Jones to train. Both fillies, who have been leased from Mr. Gates, will race in the colours of a partnership registered between Messrs. C. Holdsworth and L. Harris, of Christchureh.
