These include the rear positioning of the engine timing-gear a provision that, owing to the proximity of the flywheel,' practically eliminates the effects of torsional vibration the massively - constructed 5-speed gear box, with its easily engaged over-speed ratio, and the compact layout of the vacuum-servo and hydraulic master-cylinder of the brake-gear. Here is shown the mechanism for amplifying and distributing the braking force; here is one of the points at which it is applied. The thickness, width and diameter of the linings are important as indicating the life and efficiency of the brakes. The mounting of the camshaft is of the floating type so that compensation is automatically provided for any irregularity of wear between the two shoes. si!£ 3 53 m m t ».. ~r :< "i. Two push-rods at the off side operate inlet rockers carried on a shaft also at the off side, while two other push-rods operate the exhaust rockers which are pivoted centrally. Each rocker is forked and depresses two valves; there are thus two inlet and two exhaust valves per cylinder. The injectors are situated centrally over the pistons.
