FAILING TO STOP HIS CAR [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday ■„ "A boy of 13, who was knocked off his bicycle,' is in hospital in a serious condition," said Sub-Inspector Mac Lean in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when 'Allan Mangels, a labourer, aged 35, was jcharged with failing to stop his car after he had been involved in an accident causing injury to Clarence Herbert Richard on the Slain South Road on Saturday evening. "The boy is suffering from crushed \ pelvis and a fractured vertebrae, and it is doubtful what will happen," said the* sub-inspector, who asked that bail should be substantial, as he wished Mangels to be remanded for a week. The remand was granted, and bail was fixed at £SOO in self, with one surety of £SOO.
Richard was found lying on the toad at Hornby. His bicycle, badly damaged, and a headlamp smashed off a ..motorcar were found some distance away. Detectives' were sent out from the central police station, and made an arrest three hours later.
