"The boy is suffering from crushed \ pelvis and a fractured vertebrae, and it is doubtful what will happen," said the* sub-inspector, who asked that bail should be substantial, as he wished Mangels to be remanded for a week. The remand was granted, and bail was fixed at £SOO in self, with one surety of £SOO.

Richard was found lying on the toad at Hornby. His bicycle, badly damaged, and a headlamp smashed off a ..motorcar were found some distance away. Detectives' were sent out from the central police station, and made an arrest three hours later.
