ASSAULT CHARGE
WITHDRAWAL BY INFORMANT When George McKendrick, of Wellington Street, Auckland, was called upon in the Gnpluinga Police Court yesterday to answer a charge ol having assaulted Frederick Hayes, of Newmarket, on February 17, Mr. Terry, for defendant, explained to the magistrate, Mr. C. It. Orr-Walker, that there had been n personal disagreement, between the two men, but not in a public place A reconciliation had since been effected, ho said, and he understood that a request had been made by informant that the charge be withdrawn, The Magistrate: Was it seriousP Sergeant S, A. Brown: Yes, It was serious, but apparently tlio informant, is now satisfied with what has been done by McKendrick, and there is no objection to the charge being withdrawn. There is, however, the question of costs, the doctor's fee of £1 and witnesses' expenses. The magistrate agreed to the withdrawal and assessed the costs at £1 9a. There was no appearance of the principal parties.
