Lieutenant-Colonel E. Puttick. of the New Zealand Staff Corps, has hwii promoted to the rank of colonel. He is at present attending the Imperial Defence College in England.
Mr. W. Wynyard, of the staff of the Public Trust Office, Whangarei, has been appointed accountant to the Reparations Estates, Samoa. He will leave on May 18 for Apia, and will remain in Samoa for two years.
Mr. K. P. Morton, who has been in the Stamp Duties Department. Auckland, for the past 10 years, has received notice of his transfer to the Napier office. He will leave Auckland to take up his new duties next Wednesday.
Mr. J. Lauder, a principal warder at the Auckland Prison, has been transferred on promotion to Wellington as chief warder. Mr. Lauder, who has been stationed in Auckland for many year.", will leave for the south in about a week's time.
The Rev. J. A. Thomson, ministerdesignate of the First Presbyterian Church, Invercargill. before his departure shortly from St. Luke's Church, Remuera, will be the recipient of a presentation from the Auckland Presbytery.
Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., UnderSecretary in charge of Housing, and Mr. F. G. J. Temm, his private secretary, arrived from Wellington by the limited express on Saturday morning. Mr. Lee is staying at the Station Hotel, and expects to return to /'Wellington at the end of the week.
Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, arrived in Auckland 011 Saturday from Wellington. Having inspected the Show Grounds at Epsom he will confer to-day with the Eden Park Board of Control regarding the latter's protest against the playing of the third and final test match between New Zealand and South Africa at the Show Grounds on September 25.
