OBITUARY
MRS. HERBERT CADNESS
The death has occurred at Northcote of Mrs. Ellen Cadness, wife of Mr. Herbert Cadness, who was Mayor ot the borough from the end of 1908 until 1911 Mrs. Cadness was born in ManChester, England being the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I eter Sutton, and she arrived at Auckland on March 30, 1886. She was married to Mr. Cadness on April 8 of the same vcar. Mrs. Cadness had lived foi .)0 years at Northcote, where she was activelv associated with community work. She was a zealous worker tor St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, where a service is to be held this afternoon, prior to the funeral at tho Birkenhead cemetery. Mrs. Cadness is survived by her husband, four sons and two daughters, and there are ten grandchildren, MR. ALEXANDER STEWART [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHAN OAR EI, Sunday The death of Mr. Alexander Stewart, 'i pioneer of tho district, occuiled in the Wliangarei District Hospital yes-, tcrdav. Mr, Stewart, who was 77 years old, was born at Waikaraka, 10 miles from Whaugarei, and spent his younger davs ship-building and farming at Wiiangarei Heads. Subsequently he acquirocl a farm at Panui 13a.y, which he farmed until 10 years ago, when lie went to Whatitiri and took up another farm. He married Miss Nellie Tel for 43 years ago. Ho is survived by his wife, two sons and fivo daughters.
