NEW TOWN HALL

BUILDING AT GLEN EDEN CORONATION DAY OPENING Completed recently at a cost of £4600, the town hall and municipal offices at Glen Eden will be opened officially on Wednesday, Coronation Day, by the chairman of the Glen Eden Town Board, Mr. A. J. Routley. The building is of brick, and houses the public library, as well as the hall and municipal offices. Built on a slight rise in Valley Road, the new structure commands a fine view of the township. The hall, which will be used for motion pictures and also for functions, is centrally situated, two wings, one on either side, housing the municipal offices and the library. In the basement there are large supper rooms and behind the stage there are dressing rooms.

The projection room is in the usual position at the back of the ball, and on a higher level. The main hall is tastefully finished in dark brown and cream, the curtains and hangings being in brown, and the walls and roof in the lighter colour. The greater part of the floor is flat, but near the back is a gently-sloping ramp, on which will be mounted theatre-type chairs to accommodate 94 people. Two small garden plots, one on either side of the main entrance, are under cultivation, and will provide patches of colour against the darker brickwork of the exterior. There is a covered entrance at the sido of the building, and a drive, wide enough to be used by motor-cars, leading from the road.

The architect was Mr. A. C. Marshall, of Auckland. Two contracts were let for the work, the hall being built by Mr. W. C. Curtis, and the office block and library by C. W. Ravenhall, Limited. A Coronation ball will be held in the hall on Wednesday night, after the official opening ceremony in the afternoon.
