AMERICAN RULES. GAME The popularity of the American form of basketball is demonstrated by the large number of teams which have signified their intention to compete in the matches of the Auckland American Basketball Association. Prominent business houses and well-known ath.letes are anions the competitors. The opening matches will be played at the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium to-morrow evening, commencing at 5.30 o'clock. The match between Mormons and Nomads at 8.10 will be the star attraction. Following is the draw:—Banks Box Company v. Auckland Hospital Board, 5.30 p.m.; Newzico (N.Z. Insurance Company), v. Watts' Sports Depot, Limited, 6.10 p.m.; Mooneys, Limited, v. Y.M.C.A. Hockey Clnb, 6.50 p.m.; Auckland Gymnasium v. Old .Grammarians Gymnasium Clnb, 7.30 p.m.; Mormonr v. Nomads, 8.10 p.m.; Farmers' v. Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium, 8.50 p.m. CATHOLIC COMPETITION Following 1 were the results of matches played in the primary sections of the Auckland Catholic Schools" Basketball Association's weekly tournament:— Postprimary.—A grade: St. Patrick's, 15, v. FRANKLIN ASSOCIATION [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Monday The Franklin Basketball Association is to commcnco the season OH May -• knock-out tournament at Waiuku. The ordinary competition commences on May 22. The report presented fit the annual meeting recorded that 18 teams took part in last season's competition, representing double the membership with which the association started two years before. _ . Officers for the new season are:—President, Miss MacKinnon; vice-president, Miss M. Duthic; secretary, Miss T. Hayes; committee, v Mesdames R. Ivempe and G. Home, apa Misses F. Boyd and E. Yeo. ■
