RAILWAY PROPOSAL

LEVIN TO GREATFORD SHORTENING MAIN TRUNK [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday At a conference of local body delegates held at Foxton, it was decided to ask the Minister of Railways to give consideration to a proposal to construct a railway line between Levin and Greatford, thus shortening the Main Trunk route by 19 miles and saving considerable travelling time and haulage costs. It was considered opportune to move in the matter, as the Public Works Department was about to construct new traffic bridges over the Manawatu River at Whirokino and the Rangitikei River at Bulls. These structures might conveniently be built to carry both road and rail traffic.
