STOWAWAY CHARGED

IMPRISONMENT FOR A WEEK A charge of stowing away on the Port Denison from Sydney on April 3 was admitted in the Police Court on Saturday before Mr. D. Donaldson and Mr. J. Donald, J.P.'s, by Stanley Thomas Sands, seaman and farm labourer, aged 25. Senior-Sergeant Flanagan said accused caine to New Zealand in 1925, and worked on a farm until 1931, when he left on a ship and missed her when she sailed again from Sydney. He was unable to get a ship back to New Zealand. so he stowed away. He was a man of good character, and had not previously been before the Court in New Zealand. Accused was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, the justices remarking that the case did not call for a severe penalty.
