DISTRIBUTION OF MEDALS AVAILABLE IN TWO SIZES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Saturday Distribution of the Coronation Medal in New Zealand will be undertaken by the Post Office, states the PostmasterGeneral, the Hon. F. Jones. The medal will show tha King's head on the obverse side and the Queen's head on the reverse. The Pi oval Mint will issue the medal in two sizes, the larger, in line silver, having a 2aiu. diameter, costing a guinea, »■ and the smaller, with a diameter of 3s in silver, and Is 3d in bronze.
A small advance supply is due in New Zealand in the middle of April. The Minister also stated that the Royal Mint will sell specimens in gold at *SO guineas the largo size and 12 guineas the small size. CAMBRIDGE CELEBRATIONS BALL AND OUTDOOR FUNCTION [I'ROJt OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] CAMBRIDGE, Saturday The holding of a ball in the Cambridge Town Hall on the liight of May 12 will be ono of the main Coronation celebrations in Cambridge. The ball will be organised on similar lines to the successful function held during the jubilee week last August. Special lighting effects and decorations' will be arranged. The deputy-mayor, Mr. Edgar James, will have charge of the ball arrangements. A short function will be hold on the Town Hall steps on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, when the Mayor, Mr. C.- H. Priestley, will deliver a formal address. Special invitations will be extended to pupils of the. Cambridge primary and secondary departments, the convent school, members of the Returned Soldiers' Association, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and fire brigade. The Cambridge Municipal Band will play appropriate music. Following the address all pupils of schools in the borough will be presented with souvenir badges of the Coronation and a ba<' of sweets. There will be no other activities during the day, but sporting bodies will no doubt arrange their own functions. . The borough council intends to decorate the front of the Town Hall with special lights, bunting and flags. Between £3O and £4O worth of coloured lights will be purchased and the Power Board has agreed to co-operate by erecting the fittings and providing free electricity. The business people wi!L be asked to co-operate by decorating their windows and shop fronts with national emblems. ASSEMBLIES Ol* CHILDREN DISAPPROVAL EXPRESSED [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Saturday "When the report on the proposed Coronation Day celebrations was before the Whangarei County Council yesterdav, the chairman, Mr. J- A. S. Mac-k-iv said that a ntjnibcr of the county school children desired to participate in a children's display at Kensington P-u-k Although the Government was opposed to large gatherings of school children for obvious reasons, the suecial Coronation committee was en : flavouring to secure the sanction or .the Government for the Whangaiu demonstration. ... .- A resolution was carried indicating that the council does not favour any phn for assembling children in large numbers at any one centre.
