Best, manager at Auckland for the Shell Company of New Zealand, Limited, left for Sydney bv the Aorangi last night, accompanied by Mrs. Best. Dr. Ernest Beaglehole left by the limited express last evening for Wellington to take up his duties as lecturer in psychology at Victoria University College. :, Mr. A. C. Turnbull, acting-Adminis-trator of Western Samoa, will return to Apia by the Matua to-night* He will he accompanied by Mrs. Turnbull and Miss Turnbull. The Rev. J. M. Beaufort, joint headmaster of St. Peter's School, Cambridge, will leave for England from Auckland on May 19, accompanied "by Mrs. Beaufort. Mr. R. C. Airey, who was recently appointed Dominion inspector of the Lands and Survey Department, left on transfer to Wellington by the express yesterday afternoon. He was accompanied by Mrs. Airey. Mr. T. F. McMullen, until lately manager of the Auckland branch of the Union Bank of Australia, who has been transferred to Perth, left last night by the Aorangi for Sydney, accompanied by Mrs. McMullen. Mr. J. T. Bryant, of Matapgi, & ; director of the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, left by the Aorangi last night for Sydney. He intends to make an extended tour of Britain and the Continent.

Mr. F. D. McGovern. Auckland manager of the Bank of New South; Wales, left by the Aorangi last night on a business visit to Sydney and Melbourne. During his absence Mr. N. G. Packer will be acting-manager. Mr. T. .Fraser left by train yesterday for Wellington, where he will represent the Auckland Wholesale Merchants' Association at a conference of the New Zealand Wholesale Merchants' Federation to-morrow and on Thursday. Mr. J. F. Fames, who has been assist-ant-town clerk of Christchurch for the past 11 years, has resigned on account of ill-health. He was previously town clerk of New Brighton and Lower Hutt; Mr. F. J. Wilson, at present manager in Auckland for'Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, and Abraham and Williams, Limited, has beea. appointed general manager for Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited. Mr. Wilson will take over his new duties at an early date. Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary UnderSecretary to the Minister of Finance, arrived from Wellington yesterday on business connected with the national housing scheme, and is at the Station Hotel. Mr. Lee expects to return south on Thursday. '

Dr. J. A. Stallworthy, _ formerly of Auckland, has. been appointed to the staff of the Chelsea Hospital. He went to London in 1934 as holder of the >ew Zealand Obstetrical Scholarship, and became a member of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (London) the following year, gaining n' s F.R.C.S. at the end of 1936.

Dr. J. W. Craven, medical superjn-. tendent of the Auckland Hospital, te for Sydney by the Aorangi last night, and will be absent for three, weeks. He will represent the Auckland Hospita Board at a cancer conference at Canberra next week, and later will_ stud, administrative methods and ins equipment at Sydney and Melbourne hospitals.
