ROME AND SLAVS

NEW PACT SIGNED RIOT IN BELGRADE ANTI-FASCIST STUDENTS PREFERENCE FOR FRANCE By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received March 28, 5.5 p.m.) BELGRADE, March 27 A treaty of friendship between Italy and Yugoslavia has been signed. It stipulates in respect of the frontiers that in the event of aggression against one party the other will refrain from action which would help the aggressor. An economic agreement creating a permanent economic committee to further trade has also been signed. Students demonstrated against the part to-day. They traversed the main streets of Belgrade, hroke windows and shouted: "Long life France," and "Down with Fascist Italy." Ultimately the police drove the students into side streets. An official Yugoslav communique points out that the pact is to operate for five years and does not conflict with any previous obligations of the signatories. "Existing alliances and friendships with other Powers remain intact," it says. However, Home hails the treaty as "a Fascist diplomatic victory," completely outside the framework of the League of Nations. ATTACKED BY REDS PARIS FASCIST JOURNAL (Received March 28. 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, March 27 A crowd of Communists attacked the office of a Fascist newspaper in a working-class suburb to-day. Several people were injured.
