YOUTHS' PERIL
TRAPPED BY BIG SEAS ONE WASHED FROM WALL COMPANION'S GALLANT ACTION [BY TELEGRArH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday Trapped by heavy seas on the half-mile-long breakwater at New Plymouth on Saturday, two youths found themselves in a position of peril. One was washed off the wall, but managed to reach the rubble again. In the meantime the other had dived in to his rescue, but he soon found himself in difficulties and was rescued by a launch. The youths were seen to go along the breakwater and about half an hour afterward the attention of two Inunehinen, Mr. If. J. McKain and Mr. T. Daniels, was attracted by the sight of one of the youths running up and down oil the breakwater. They then SAW the other struggling in the water. He managed to reach safety, hut meanwhile the other had dived in fully clad, but could not reach the breakwater again, because of the tremendous wash. The launch \ iking went to his assistance and rescued him just as his strength was failing. The launch itself had some difficulty in getting near tho youth because of the wash. When rescued the youth had manseed to get rid of his overcoat. Me made a speedy departure when he reached the wharf, dodging a photographer and saying that ho did not want his mother to know about it. The rescue was watched by a number of people from Xgamotu Beach.
