GAIETIES REVUE
SECOND WEEK OF SEASON Entering the second week of their Auckland season, Stanley McKay's Gaieties Vaudeville Company presented a new revue, "In Sunny Hawaii," to a packed house on Saturday night. Several clever and original sketches were included in the programme and these earned prolonged applause from the audience. Of the excellent programme the item which earned the biggest ovation was that by two Hawaiians, George and Wehi Greig. who played several popular number 3 on a variety of musical instruments. Elvy Ferguson played a bracket of violin numbers, and Elton Black, a Scottish comedian, was popular with his offering of songs and humour. Stella Lamond, a charming soubrette with a melodious voice and a happy personality, featured prominently in the evening's entertainment. Her contribution to the programme comprised a number of the latest songs and a musical monologue. Joe Lawman and George Corelli combined to provide the humour for the greater portion of the show. Cutting a grotesque figure in floppy trousers and large boots, Lawman was immediately the favourite of the audience, his appearance alone being sufficient to provoke loud laughter. The Flying Martinettis introduced a new act, "Twists, Turns and Thrills," in which several extraordinary gymnastic feats were included, and "Heather Wright, a young dancer of considerable talent, appeared in an eccentric dance, which was orte of the best items of the show. Led by Joy Wright, the ballet appeared in a number of sketches, all of which were well produced. A special matinee for children will be given to-day.
