The Hon. P. McCallum, M.L.C., arrived by the limited express from Wellington on Saturday morning.
Mr. L. W. Worsley, of the staff of the Union Bank of Australia at Ilelensvi lie, has been transferred to To Puke as manager.
Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington. is spending the Easter holidays at Tokaanu, and will return to Wellington next Saturday.
Messrs. P. Coulter, M P. for Waikato, and W. T. Anderton, M.P. for Eden, left by the limited express last night for Wellington.
The Hon. W. A\ . Snodgrass, M.T-.C was a passenger by the limited express from Wellington on Saturday morning. He returned by the express last night.
Mr. Basil King, chief draftsman in the Lands Office at Ney Plymouth, has been promoted to the position of Commissioner of, Crown Lands for Westland.
Sir Joseph Smith and Lady Smith of Auckland left for Wellington bv the afternoon express on Saturday. Thev will shortly leave New Zealand on a visit to England.
Mr. F. H. Waters, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taranaki, i:s shortlv leaving New -Plymouth to take up the position of Commissioner of Crown Lands at Dunedin.
Colonel J. E. Duigan, who has been appointed General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, left for Wellington by the limited express last night to undertake his new duties.
Mr B. M. Johns, a New Zealander who is professor of clinical surgery at King Edward VJI. College of Medicine Singapore, is at present visiting Christchurch in the course of an extended leave. He is accompanied by Mrs. Johns.
Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M V has been appointed chairman of the Hauraki Licensing Committee, vice Mr. F. K. Hunt, resigned, and Mr. C. It. Orr Walker, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the Manukau committee, vice Mr. McKean.
Mr. G. T. Dawson, manager for New Zealand of the Liverpool and London and Globe Insurance Company, Limited, will leave for Australia on April 15 to »
take over the management for Australia of the Guardian Assurance Company, Limited, with headquarters at Melbourne.
Mr. W. L. Dunn, secretary of the Hawke's Eay Education Board, has at the request of the Minister of Education been granted two months' leave of absence by the board to take up special work in the Education Department. He will be proceeding to Wellington shortly after Easter.
Dr. A. L. Day, director of the geophysical laboratory of the Carnegie Institution, Washington, who has spent the past three and a-half months on an investigation of the thermal region of New Zealand, in co-operation with the Departments of Public Works and Scientific and Industrial Research, returned to Auckland from Kotorua at the week-end with Mrs. Day, and is at the Grand Hotel. Dr. Day has made a special study of the relation between thermal and volcanic activity, and has presented $ report on his findings to the departments concerned.
