HIGH ALTITUDE FLYING

EXPERIMENTS IN BRITAIN PRACTICAL BENEFITS HOPED LONDON, March 20 Britain is experimenting with a liquid-cooled aero engine specially designed for stratosphere Hying, states the Daily Telegraph. This type of engine will be installed in a sister aeroplane to the one used in tho monoplane in which Lieutenant Swain gained the world altitude record of 49,967 ft. last September.

Although tho objective is to raise the altitude record above 50.000 ft., there is actually a much more serious object in view. High flying offers advantages for commercial and military aviation, chiefly that, while speed is increased, visibility and audibility from the ground are lowered.
