CIVIC LOANS
Sir, —What should be of interest to the public is the recent rejection of five i out of six proposals in Wellington to ! raise money for what the council | thought was necessary in the public interests. it is quite evident from the ratepayers' point of view that the expenditure was not warranted, and they had the opportunity to show it in the ballot box. My reason for draw- > ing your attention to this is that tho j public of Auckland may be called upon to provide somewhere in the vicinity of £300,000 to go into a business which has been tried out in Wellington and proved to be ineffective in relieving the citizens there of one penny in the rates. All I want is that the ratepayers of Auckland shall have the same opportunity as did the ratepayers in Wellington, and I should then be perfectly satisfied if the people here were willing to take the risk. James Haslam. Member of the Metropolitan Milk Council.
