PARK SHOOTING CASE
MELBOURNE POLICE OFFICER t ' ; MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL . ! MELBOURNE? March 18 , In connection with the park shooting case on May 22 of last year, Stuperiiir... tendent J. O'C. Brophy, in "the Melbourne City Court, identified G«offrey Davies, aged 32, as the man who shot him. Davies, who was charged with having wounded Superintendent Brophy with intent to murder, was committed for trial. Superintendent Brophy, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch of the Victorian Police, was wounded when he went in a motor-car to Royal Park, , near the city. A Royal Commission waa held to inquire ii|to the case and aa-a sequel, the Commissioner of ksir Thomas Blarney, resigned. Chief Inspector Alexander Duncan, of Scotland Yard, was appointed to* report on proposals for the reorganisation of the Police Department in Victoria and last January he succeeded .Sir Thomas as commissioner.
