THE TEAM FOR ENGLAND WITHDRAWAL OF GRIFFITHS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday A vacancy has occurred in the New Zealand cricket team for England owing to the withdrawal of B. G. Griffiths, the Wellington right-hand slow bowler.

The following statement was issued this morning by the secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council, Mr. E. E. Tuttrell: —"In connection with the coming English tour, B. G. Griffiths has failed to pass the doctor, and the position is now being considered by the council."

This means that Griffiths will not go to England, and the selectors will have to appoint a man in his place.

Griffiths said he had been examined by more than one doctor, and had been given to understand that there was nothing physically wrong with his condition, except for a few dental defects. •

CHAIRMAN'S 'EXPLANATION ASSUMED PLAYER WAS TOLD [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, Mr. A. T. Donnelly, commenting on the message from Wellington to the effect that B. G. Griffiths liad not been informed that ho was unfit for the English cricket tour, said that Griffiths was seen by one doctor, who told him to see another doctor and a dentist. The final doctor advised the council that all agreed that Griffiths was unfit to go on the tour. Mr. Donnelly said he assumed that Griffiths was informed by the doctors, but received a telegram from him this afternoon, and replied confirming the Press Association message seut from Christcliurch this morning.
