PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
EARLY DECISION LIKELY GOVERNMENT NEGOTIATIONS A definite decision affecting the proposals by Pan-American Airways to commence a commercial air service across the Pacific is likely to be reached in the near future, according to a statement made yesterday by the Prime Minister. Mr. Savage. He admitted that the proposed service had been "hanging fire" ever since the agreement with the company had been signed on behalf of the former Government on the eve of the last general election, but conflicting interests were involved and unexpected difficulties had been encountered. "We have discussed the matter with the American company concerned and also with representatives of the British Government," Mr. Savage said. "Tho negotiations have not yot been finalised, but there is a possibility that events during the next day or so may clear away many of tho present difficulties. We are anxious to have the matter settled as soon as possible."
