ADVANCE IN BRITAIN AUCKLAND CHAPLAIN'S VIEWS SYDNEY, March 0 The Rev. G. K. Moreton, chaplain at the Auckland Prison, who has arrived at Sydney from London, said a great advance had been made recently in the treatment of prisoners in Britain. At Maidstone gaol, where there were many long-sentence men, the buildings outwardly resembled a hospital. No armed guard was visible and the grohnds were laid out with beautiful gardens. Mr. Moreton said he sawprisoners wearing shirts, collars and ties, a*d many were engaged in printing and other skilled trades.
