MOTOR INSURANCE
SYSTEM IN VICTORIA COMPULSORY PLAN URGED MELBOURNE. March 0 Although most insurance companies operating in Victoria favour a compulsory. third party motor insurance, which was strongly recommended by the - Chief Secretary of State in Victoria, Mr. H. S. Bailey, 011 his return from New Zealand, companies claim that 17s premium is impossible here. The manager of one company said the reason was that New Zealand had less than a third of the cars registered in Victoria where the amount paid in claims was infinitely greater. The ruling rate of premiums paid in Victoria in third party insurance is £3 10s a year.
The number of motor vehicles registered in Victoria is 600,000. The Chief Secretary, however, will recommend to the State Ministry the adoption of a system of compulsory third party motor insurance, but before he does so he will compare the details of the plan operating in New Zealand with those of the optional Victorian practice. , ,
