AUCKLAND TRAVEL CLUB

FIRST LUNCHEON FOR YEAR There was a large attendance of members and visitors at the first luncheon to be held this year by the Auckland Travel Club. The tables in the Milne and Choyce Reception Hail were arranged with vases of pink and mauve asters. The guests were welcomed by the vice-president, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, who acted as chairman. An address on "Immigration" was given by the Hon. W. E. Barnard, M.P., Sjieaker of the House of Representatives. In the course of his talk Mr. Barnard strongly advocated the introduction of a carefully planned policy of immigration to counteract the threat of a declining population in the Dominion. The importance of the work of the Travel Club, which specialised in welcoming visitors to the country, was also stressed by the speaker. Songs were rendered by Miss Hinemoa Kosieur, winner of the Melba scholarship. She was accompanied on the piano by Miss K. O'Leary. A musical trio arranged by Mrs. E. Greenfield comprised Miss Isobel Langlands (Mrs, E. Greenfield), Mrs. M. Gully and Miss Marjorie Dunn. Bouquets wore presented to Mrs. Barnard and Miss Rosieur and floral shoulder sprays to the members of the trio. A vote of thanks, was passed to the speaker and the performers by Mr. Allum.
