TRADE WITH JAPAN
INDIA APPOINTS OFFICIAL COMMISSIONER AT OSAKA The Government of India has announced the appointment of an official as trade commissioner at Osaka, Japan, and its decision to create a similar post at Mombasa, to be held by a nonolficial. This is the outcome of many years' agitation by commercial bodies and public opinion in India. The Osaka .post will be of considerable importance in view of the complicated trade relations between India and Japan. The Mombasa post was one of the recommendations of the Indian Trade Mission to the Near East and Africa in 1928. The mission felt that there was scope for larger exports of Indian manufactures, particularly cotton piecegoods. to those countries, and suggested tlie appointment of trade commissioners at Alexandria, Mombasa and Durban.
