♦ INCREASES ANNOUNCED RISING PRODUCTION COSTS (Received March 5, 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 4 The president of the United States Steel Corporation, Mr. William Irvin, announces advances ranging from three to eight dollars a ton in prices of steel to meet the increasing costs of production. Theso include higher wages and the rising cost of supplies of raw materials. The entire steel industry is expected to make similar increases in prices * immediately. The new prices fixed by the corporation are slightly higher than those of 1926—the best normal year in the history of the industry.
