INFANTILE PARALYSIS
SCHOOLS REMAIN CLOSED DECISION FOR SOUTHLAND [BY TELEGRAPH —MESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Friday Because of the number of infantile paralysis cases in the district, all Southland schools will be closed until March 15, Originally they were to reopen on March 1. A few days before that the date was advanced to March 8, and to-day tho Southland Education Board received advice from the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, that the schools were to bo closed till March 15. No cases of infantile paralysis were reported to-day. CASE IN OHRISTOHUROH ONE DEATH AT WAIMATE [BY TELEGRAPH —TRESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Tho first case of infantile paralysis in tho city for more than a fortnight was notified to tho Health Department today. The patient, who is in the Christchurch Hospital, is a girl aged 13. This notification brings the total number of cases of infantile paralysis in Christchurch City since tho outbreak to six. The first- four patients have now been discharged as cured. Although no notification, has yet reached Dr. Telford, a report from Waimate states that one patient has died in the Public Hospital from infantile paralysis. He was a boy of eight years, who was admitted on Tuesday last. This is the second death from the disease in the Canterbury and Westland health district. Friday A further caso of infautile paralysis, a man aged 22, from the town area, was admitted to hospital yesterday.
