ISLAND FRUIT
COST IN AUCKLAND GOVERNMENT CONTROL URGED The question of the retail prices in Auckland for bananas, oranges and other tropical fruit, raised at a meeting of the City Council some weeks ago by Sir George Richardson, again came before the council last night. Sir George suggested that the council should make representations to the Government to make available an increased quantity of fruit from the South Sea Islands in order to reduce the local price. The matter was considered by the Public Services Committee, and on its recommendation, the council decided to request the Government to take suitable action to assume strict control of the prices and marketing of fruit from the Islands.
