INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Maungatautari. —Mrs. Scott presided over the last meeting. The roll call was "Coating Suggestions." Each member brought her favourite - flower decoration and a great variety was exhibited. The hostesses were Mrs. Tron and the Misses 11. Douglas and N. Wallace. Eureka. —Mrs. L. Masters presided and welcomed a new member. Many interesting letters had been received from members of the link in Scotland. A parcel of Christmas gifts from the link was distributed. The competition for the best collection of vegetables was won by Mrs. K. Inglis. Mrs. L. Masters was the winner of the tall competition and also of a competition for the best bloom from the garden. The hostesses were Mesdames B. Townsend and A. Jops and Miss J. Creswell. Waiterimu-Matahuru. Mrs. C. Storey presided. Mrs. Ludwig gave a demonstration of pine needle work. Miss F. Grundy gained most points for the best collection of flowers. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. J. Grundy and Miss F. Grundy, and the competition was won by Miss McCluskey. Nort'on-Botokauri. The president, j Mrs. Armitage, presided and welcomed/ two now members and several visitors. The president read an article on the life and work of Miss A. E. Jerome Spencer, founder of the Women's Institute movement in New Zealand. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to her on her being awarded the 0.8. E. The three competitions resulted as follows: —Best bowl of mixed flowers, Mrs. May Best; plate of date scones and bar of home-made soap, Mrs. Hewitt. Another competition was won by Mrs. Cook. Jubilee. —Mrs. Higgins presided. Bound-table and group reports were read. Mrs. J. A. Nelson gave a demonstration of hairpin work, A competition was held for home-made Christmas presents. The proceeds of sponges and aprons went to defray the ex|)cnses of the children's Christmas party. Matamata. —-The February meeting was held at tho Crystal Springs, Okauia. Mrs. L Leadbeater presided. A bathing parade was held, for which prizes were offered for the most orisrinal and the most humorous costumes. These were won by Mrs. G. Stewart and Mrs. J. E. Sorronson. The prizes were donated by Mrs. Leadbeater. The final points competition for the year were as follows: —Hairpin mats: ' Mrs. E. Brunton, ] and 3; Mrs. H. Lowry, 2. Article made from wire: Mrs.. C.
