TRAWLER'S NORTHERN TRIP TWO SPECIMENS SECURED [BY TELEGRArH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] KAITAIA, Thursday On the return from a cruise of northern waters the trawler Maud, E. arrived at Mangonui on Wednesday evening. The personnel includes Mr. A. W. B. Powell, acting director of the War Memorial Museum, Auckland; Mr. Bowden, superintendent at Auckland of the Department of Industries and Commerce; Captain Daniels, inspector of fisheries, representing the Marine Department; Mr. J. J. Enright, general manager of Sanford, Limited; Mr. W. Jennings, master, and a crew of four. The object of the cruise was to make an investigation on behalf of an American company to ascertain if tuna were available in New Zealand waters in commercial quantities. The weather during the cruise was not favourable, but so far two species of tuna, bluefinned albacore and bonito, have been caught by trawling with specially designed American gear. Operations are being carried out in detail, according to instructions received from America. Further investigations will be made between Mangonui and Auckland.
