STOCKS AND SHARES
JHE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE AUSTRALIAN METALS RISE A substantial volume of business was again transacted on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, a feature being 3' general rise in Australian metal shares. Trading was widespread. Firmer levels ruled for long-term Government loans, inscribed stocks selling well. In banks the recovery in New Zealands was maintained and prices were once moro lifted in dealing. Commercials also moved upward, while New South Wales were strong. Insurances were about unchanged. There we? a marked weakness in timber shares and dealing in Kauris, Rotoitis and Taupo Totaras was at cheaper rates. Auckland Gas continued easier and breweries were steady, with the exception of a slight decline in Now Zealands. Broken Hill Proprietary met with a ready sale Is higher at 80s. Values for Electrolytic Zinc advanced further, closing Is higher at 57s 9d. G. J. Coles ' again fluctuated, gaining 6d to £5 Gs 6<l, but buyers at the closo were offering £5 7s 3d. A forward move was made bv Morts Dock, while other Australian issues were firmly steady. Among Dominion industrials rises were recorded by Woolworths (New Zealand) and Sanford.
