MECHANICAL MUSEUM
OLD PUMPING STATION PLANT AT WESTERN SPRINGS A decision to retain the engine at the disused Western Springs pumping station and to convert the station into a museum for mechanical relifcs and models was made by the City Council last night. People interested in the history of engineering hare advocated this course and the council's action was taken on the recommendation of its Public Services Committee. The matter was brought before the council last November by Mr. J. Gaddis, who stressed the historical value of the machinery installed at the pumping station. Subsequently the Auckland branch r>f the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers also made representations to the council, promising co-operation in any efforts made to transform the station into an engineering museum. The recommendation of the committee was that the engine afc the Dumping station should be retained and that suitable provision should be made from time to time for. the conversion of the building into a museum for mechanical relics and models.
