MARRIAGE LOANS

GERMAN SYSTEM REVIEWED £35,000,000 INVOLVED (Received February 2, 5.50 p.m.) BERLIN, Feb. 1 Reporting on marriage loans between August, 1933, and January 30 last, Herr Bernhardt, Under Secretary of Finance, says there were 700,000 marriages and loans totalled £3'>,000,000. These marriages resulted in the births of 500,000 children. The birth-rate was relatively twice as high as that associated with couples who married on their own resources. In cases where births resulted from marriages, 25 per cent of the loan was immediately remitted. Herr Bernhardt says the policy will be continued ns long as there are any women wage earners of marriageable age left in Germany.
