SUPPLY OF WATER
THE MENTAL HOSPITAL'
BOROUGH COUNCIL'S DECISION
Permission sought by the medical superintendent of the Auckland Mental Hospital for the water mains of the Auckland City Council to traverse the territory of the Mount Albert borough was unanimously refused at a meeting of the Borough Council last evening. It was stated that the hospital at present obtained its supply from the city council's mains, to all departments with the exception of the lodge ward and the medical superintendent's residence, which were situated in the Mount Albert borough. It was proposed to obtain the whole of the hospital's supply from the city water system by connecting up the remaining buildings. The Mayor, Mr. H. A. Anderson, said that Mount Albert possessed every facility for reticulation and the purchase of large quantities of water might well be dealt with on a special footing. While refusing its consent to the proposal, the council might_ advise the hospital authorities that if they were taking bulk supplies it might be prepared to allow a reduced rate. It was decided to advise the medical superintendent that the council was not prepared to grant permission, but that further negotiations regarding supply would be considered by the legal and finance committee with power to act.
