FLATS DAMAGED BY FIRE
OCCUPIERS NOT INSURED [IJY TEIjEOBAI'II—own correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday A fire this evening resulted in two adjacent ilats in Main Street becoming entirely uninhabitable, though the damage was mainly to the ceilings and roofs. The occupiers were Mr. G. A. , Lock wood and family and Mr. F. Clark and family. The building, a two-storey one, is owned by the Abrahams estate I and the loss is covered by insurance. Tlio occupiers, however, carried no insurance covers on their furniture and effects. The fire started in the roof of a Hat rented bv Mr. Lockwood and was discovered by Mr. Clark's daughter. An attempt was made with a bucket of water to suppress the flames, but to 110 purpose. The fire brigade was then called and two engines proceeded to the scene. A brick dividing wall saved another block of flats. On the other side of the building is the Foresters' Hall, a wooden structure, situated fortunately, farthest from the seat of the outbreak, and the brigade had no difficulty in keeping the fire away.
