HAWKE'S BAY AND MANAWATU
AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE [by telegraph —OWN CORRESPONDENT] PALMiSRSTOX NORTH, Ftu'ay An important new link between Hawke's Bay and the Manawatu is being forged by 60 workmen employed by the Public Works Department, who are constructing a road over a saddlo of the Ruabine Jianges, a short distance north of the Manawatu Gorge, for which it will be an alternative route and will remove the menace of slips which from time to time threaten this important highway. The length of new road to be conconstructed is slightly over four miles, and of this about one mile has been formed since the work, began last October. The Pohangina River will b® spanned by a new bridge. — t
