CANEFIELDS VENDETTAS
ITALIANS IN QUEENSLAND OBSTACLES TO DEPORTATION [V'UOM OUR OWN* con it kspoxdent] SYDNEY, Jan. •21 Hecent investigations into cases of violence and murder on the Ingham cauefields, Queensland, have d'isclosed many obstacles in the way of deportation proceedings against persons involved in vendettas. The Queensland Police Commissioner, in company with an officer of the Commonwealth investigation Branch, lias been visiting Ingham, and it is understood that they will shortly submit a joint report on vendetta crimes to the Federal Government. The Ingham crimes have been confused with "Black Hand" influence, but they have been proved definitely to be the outconia of blood vendettas. As the majority of the Sicilians in the Ingham district have lived in Australia more than five years, they are beyond the reach of the deportation law as it now stands. It iy regarded as certain that the question will be taken up with the Italian Government.
