JOHN BARRYMORE'S WIFE SUIT FOR DIVORCE FILED (Received January 17, 5.5 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, Jan. 1(> Elaine Barrymore, fourth wife of John Barrymore, has filed a suit for divorce on the grounds of mental cruelty. She has asked for temporary support, but does not intend to seek permanent alimony. She accuses Barrymore of striking her at a New Year party, after which they separated, also with threatening to/' kill or seriously maim" her.

The wife alleges that Barrymore called her by approbriotis names. He was jealous because be could not participate in her stage career, and he was jealous of actors who were to play with her in her first drama. Also he was jealous of stage hands. She was determined he should not interfere, and proceeded to sign a contract. The couple were married last November.
