INTER-CLUB RACES POSTPONEMENT OF EVENTS A large crowd gathered on the Waterfront Road on Saturday afternoon was disappointed at the decision of the Auckland Rowing Association to postpone the inter-club events. There was a slight jobble over the course and the fours could have been rowed, but with a strong wind and rough water conditions in Hobsqn Bay, eights could not. be boated and it was decided not to hold the events. The Auckland Rowing Club held trial fours for the Kohn Cup. Six entries were received and a good standard was set. G. Oxspring was the successful competitor, gaining his first win this season.

OXSPRING'S FIRST WIN TRIALS FOR KOHN CUP The Auckland Rowing Club decided trial fours for the Kohn Cup, an event that was postponed on December 10. Six entries were received. Mr. G. Barrett was starter and judge. Crews in the first heat were:—D. Elwood (stroke), R. Porter, G. Jonson, W. Boon; J. Guiniven (stroke), D. Simmonds, W. Baverstock, T. Murfitt; J. B. Dickson (stroke), L. Winter, W. Brown, B. Baverstock. Elwood made tlio best of the start and early held a-half length lead. Dickson, after the first quarter of a nule, was two lengths behind. Guiniven challenged the leader at the bridce and at the bend led by half a length. Coming down the straight Elwood made up leeway and in the last ten yards put in some solid strokes to gain tbo verdict by two feet from Guiniven.'Dickson was one length away third. Contesting the second heat were:—H. MuJvihill (strokei, H. Jellie, V. Walker, K. King; I!. B. Smith (stroke), 1. Faulconbndge. D. Moir. L. Sullings; G. Oxspring (stroke). (I. Chamberlain, R. Wilson, K. Rule. Oxspring soon took the lead, closely followed by Mulvihill. Oxspring led by two lengths at the halfway mark and Smith, moving up fast, passed Mulvihill and tried to catch the leader. Oxspring, however, rowed well and held a slight lead at the bend. On the run down the straight the positions remained the same and Oxspring won by one and a-half lengths from Smith, while Mulvihill was several lenirths away, third. Crews stroked by Fllwood aud Oxspring contested the final. Soon after the start Oxspring held a slight advantage and at the halfway mark he was one length in rront. Elwood challenged but Oxspring responded and drew away. The latter with nice finish to his strokes went out and led by three lengths at the bend. Down the straight ho increased his lead to win by five lengths.

EVENT FOR NAVAL WHALERS ACHILLES WINS NARROWLY Naval whalers representing tho Dunedin (two crews), Achilles. Leith, Wellington and Philomel competed in tho race for tho Devonport Cup, presented by the North Shore Rowini* Club. Conditions were Rood and the race was keenly contested. Toward the finish the Achilles and Dunedin fought a great contest and tlie issue was in doubt until the Achilles fortred ahead to train the verdict narrowly. The result was:—II.M.S. Achilles, 1: II "M.S. Dunedin. 'J; 11.M.5. Philomel, a The Mayor of Dovonport, Mr. li. F. W. Moikle, presented tho cup to the winning crew, which comprised Wakefield, Scott, 1 ett.vOfficer Norris, A. B. Wakefield, Leading-Sea-man Atkins, Leading-Seaman J. Woodward, A. B. Cowan and A. B. Shirley, Commander Drummond replied on behalf of the Navy and thanked the Mayor and the North Shore i Rowing Club for their co-operation in staging the events.
