AKARANA CLUB'S REGATTA FOUR GENERAL HANDICAPS The Akarnna Yacht Club held its annual regatta 011 Saturday afternoon. The scow Esmo was flagship ami was moored in Judge s Bay. .Ml races started and finished between the flagship and mark anchored north. Four general handicap races were sailed, also a race for yachts in charge of lady skippers, and the annual inter-club race for the Willetts Memorial Cup for 14-footers. In the forenoon, when the ladies' raco was sailed, the wind was northerly with rain, but later the wind backed to the west and freshened into a good sailing breeze with fine weather. An "At Home" was held in the clubhouse in the afternoon and a dance in the evening. The annual picnic was held at Deep Creek yesterday and a large number of boats attended. Details of Saturday's events were as follows : LADIES' RACKS The rare for vaclits sailed by ladies brought out eight starters. Mawhifi was first away and then came Boiaata. and Valdora. The' following were late:— Rambler, 1m: Owhanga, Calypso, 3VaUi; Tainui, 9m; Altair, 25m. Rambler soon made up her late start and on the completion of the first round the times were: —'Rambler, 12h 32m; Boiaata, 12h 32m 255; Mawhili, 12h 33m; Owhanga, 12h 33m 15s; Calypso, 12h 34in; Valdora. IJh 31m 255; Tainui, 12h 30m 455. Rambler continued her lead in the second round, followed by Roiaata, with Calypso and Valdora next in order. . The competitors in the annual inter-club contest for the Willetts Memorial Cup for 14foolcrs were:—Ayesha (Devonport Yacht I Club), Muimai (Tamaki). Swallow (Akarana), Tempest (Takapuna), Shalimar (v ictoria), Mania (Wakatere), and Endeavour (Ponsonby). From an excellent start lempest was first away, closely followed by Endeavour, Avcsha. Mania, Muimai, Shalimar and Swallow. Mania soon went into the lead and on the completion of the first round she was 55 seconds ahead of Tempest, which was 40 seconds In front of Shalimar. Nine seconds later came Endeavour, with Muimai and Swallow further astern. Mania increased her lead in the second round and Muimai passed The race started at 2.22 p.m. The finishing times were: —Mania. 3h 20m 15s; lempest all 20m 455; Shalimar, 3li 00in 1..5, Muimai, all 30m 525; Endeavour .ill 31m 57s- Swallow, ah 30m 40s. Yaalele, Rangatira and Tiki, with the rest of the fleet fipndy, except Malolo and Hawk, which were late. Mancne led Manaia by 15

ELIOT DAVIS CUP The Eliot Davis Cup was competed for by classes T and V, which also raced for a prize in their own class. Tempest crossed the lino at gunfire and was closely followed by Rebel, Swallow, Salome, Treasure, Endeavour. Muiniai, Mania, Raider, Vamp. Shallmar, Ayesha and Zepher. Tempest maintained her position on liolh rounds of the course. MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB HARBOUR RACE DECIDED Good sailing conditions prevailed for the harbour race held by the Manukau Cruising Club on Saturday. A change in the wind • near the end of the first round somewhat 1 nullified the handicaps and gave the limit | boats an advantage. The course used was No. Eleven boats started off the main wharf and, with the wind in the north-west, they were able to lay right through to tho mark off Waikowhai, with a run back to tho buoy off the wharf with cased sheets.
The handicaps were given at the start, the limit boat Kin Ora brine followed by Sea Pixie find the others in order or their lmndiraps. Sea Pixie took the lead on the run home, while Sea King improved her position, and the order round in? the top mark was:— Sea Pixie, Kin Ora, Sea Kin?. Foam, Wixie M., Alomn, Roanicr, Perseus. Alerte, Main. K'anui. The wind had now changed to the south-west, which pave the fleet a dead beat out to the weather mark. Hoamer had not gone far before she split her sail and retired, while Main also had trouble and retired. The freshening breeze cave the smaller boats some trouble, and on the beat out. Sea King, Wixie M., and Aloma made up some of their handicap, but the other barkmarkers had little chance. Kia Ora. a Silver Fern class boat on the limit, was without her crew and, with no extras, her owner, Mr. 11. Davis, cave a great performance single-handed, being unlucky to be beaten out of a place on the last round. On the final run to the finishing line against a strong ebb tide. Sea King drew ahead.

Sommervell, MANUKAU YACHT CLUB SUCCESS OF SUNBEAM The Manukau Yacht and Motor-boat Club held a harbour race for yachts 011 Saturday afternoon. The race was sailed in a westerly breeze and was started on the Mark Foy system.
' The limit boat was sent away at 2 p.m. The finishing times were:—Sunbeam (32m), ■ 111 Slll 1 Is; Maile (35m), -1 li Sm 335; Fay (3ml lh sm ins; Taiiwi (3Sm), 4h 14m 13s; Aoma <2m), lh Iftm 10s; Atalanta (3m), 111 23m 275; Sea Imp (70m), 5h 15m 30s; MysTic (7 1 .111), retired. The Takapnna Boating Club hold a series of races for class Z boats on Saturday afternoon. starting and finishing off the Bayswater Wharf. The first event, a handicap race, was started at 3.5S p.in. NAVAL WHALERS' EVENT The ciln presented to the Naval Sailing Club hv the Auckland Yacht Clubs was competed for on Saturday morning by naval service whalers. The contest was a. teams event, two whalers from each warship and the R.N.V.n. taking part. The race was sailed over a six-miles course inside the harbour. points being awarded as follows:—1_ for first place. 1.1 fir second and so on Twelve boats' competed The cup was won by H.M.S. Philomel with a total of 20 points. Next were H.M.S. Achilles, is points; B.NAM?. 10 J ,O,nU = HMS T.eith. 11 points; H.M.S. Dunedin, t points; H.M.S. Wellington, a points.
