GAMING CHARGES
SEQUEL TO CITY RAID 27 MEN APPEAR IN COURT Arrested when the police raided premises at 2t Wyndham Street on Wednesday afternoon and remanded from a special Court subsequently held at the Central Police Station, 27 men were charged before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., yesterday with participating in the management of a common gaming house or with being found on the premises.
A traveller, Frank Dicker 'Russell, aged 42, was charged with using the premises as a common gaming house, and Albert .lames Thomas, a barman, nged 46. Frederick William Bntchelor, a labourer, aged 58, David Henry Sitnon, a painter, aged 48, and Lnchlan McDonald, a. labourer, aged .'32, were charged with assisting in the management.
Charges of being found on the premises were brought against the following:—Roy McGregor, labourer, aged .'39; Hugh Glover, driver, aged .16; A\ alter Carrick, labourer, aged 5'3; Ivan Duzerieh, aged 42; Alexander •John AVntson, baker, aged 40; Eric Cooper, waterside worker, aged .'i2; Mack Matkat, labourer, aged 26; Ivan Bilieh, labourer, aged .'JO; Patrick Bovne, labourer, agv.l 28; Andrew Motica, labourer, aged 50; Jratpph Rosetar, gum dealer, aged 50; Herbert IVarce, salesman, aged ;32; Edmund Cooper, commission agent, aged 5.3; George Henrv Hrown, labourer, aged «33; Willinin Henry George Cooper, labourer, aged 60; Edwin Sherwood Thompson, salesman, nged .'(7; Leslie Patrick Heath, salesman, aged '11; John Thomas Hrown, motor driver, nged .'il ; Robert, Ferric, cook, nged 16; Edgar Roberts, traveller, nged 45; Albert Chapman, salesman, aged .54; David Bookman, salesman, aged 51. Detective-Sergeant McHugh prosecuted, and Mr. Terry appeared for Russell, Thomas, Batchelor, Simon and McDonald.
With the exception of three men, all the accused appeared, and again were remanded to appear this morning. Ivan Duzerieh and Leslie Patrick Heath, who wore not present, were each fined £l. Edmund Cooper, who also did not appear, was fined £5, Mr. McHugh stating that he had four previous convictions for similar offences.
